Leonard, Zoe. “Strange Fruit” Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia . 1992.
Leonard created an art piece addressing themes of the AIDS epidemic and disenfranchisement of marginalized groups. The installation was comprised of hundreds of pieces of rotting fruit sewn together with twine. She dedicated it to David Wojnarowicz, a famous activist who died of AIDS. The title comes from a Billie Holiday song about racial violence.
