Leonard, Zoe. “I Want a Dyke for President.” 1992, https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2016/03/i-want-a-dyke-for-president/

This poem was written by visual artist and ACT UP member, Zoe Leonard in 1992. Leonard wrote the poem in response to the presidential bid of Eileen Myles. It asks why people of marginalized identities, whether they are gay, black, HIV positive, undocumented, or a sex worker, cannot hold political power in the United States. Leonard originally distributed it in zine form, but the poem had a comeback in 2016 due to the election. A 30-foot tall poster of it was set up in a manhattan neighborhood.
