Audre Lorde gave her speech titled “The Transformation of Silence into Language and Action” at the Lesbian and Literature panel of Modern Language Association’s December 28, 1977 meeting. Her speech was used to empower women to overcome any fears they may have about being themselves and begin speaking up for themselves and their personhood.
